People tend to spend most of their time in various trance states believing the thoughts and imagery within their minds and allowing these illusory fixations to override their experience of true reality. They exist in a kind of psychic hell unable to appreciate the wildflowers because they think there are too many “weeds” in the way.
Developing psychic ability doesn’t actually involve learning how to become psychic so much as remembering how to not believe in thoughts as concrete truth. No thought is actually true. Thoughts are various expressions of truth and as such can only ever serve as pointers to truth. Thoughts that point most directly to truth can be likened to the smoke to truth’s flame. However, if one tries to look too deeply into the billowing smoke they will only be blinded by it. If you have ever gotten smoke in your eyes you will know that this is so.
Thoughts like everything else in the universe are temporal. The universe is a temporal movement of formless expression that gives rise to the illusion of form. The only constants in this movement are change and emptiness. At the heart of all things there is a nucleus of silence, stillness, emptiness, or what some might call the heart of true inner peace. By quieting the mind into a sense of complete surrender within this very moment, you can enter into the awareness of this silence that is ever permeating.
This silence or emptiness is omnipresent and always resides at the heart of now. It is so pervasive that it is mostly tuned out or taken for granted. True awareness emanates from this place of stillness. True awareness precedes all thought and abides in a quiet observance that is without conditioning. There is no sense of judgment when observing from this state of pure awareness, only acceptance and surrender. Discernment occurs from the heart’s will and this guides us to choose the proper course of action or inaction within the present moment.
In its purest and most powerful form, psychic ability is a clear expression of emptiness. It is through the act of surrender within the present moment to the natural flow of this expression that psychic ability is most efficiently realized. At its rarest purest state, the movement of psychic energy through a person is extremely focused and profoundly simple. The lower the level of resistance within a living being is, the less energy there is that is wasted within its movement within existence. Another name for this greater natural flow or expression of emptiness is the Tao.
When a person is living in profound harmony with the Tao, they exist in a state of what is called Wu Wei or action without effort. It is from this place of being that the most profound realizations and expressions of psychic potential can occur without hindrance from the blockages of egoic resistance. The moment a person begins to incessantly cling to an emotion, thought, or details, the feedback loop of egoic resistance once again hinders full expression of being.
This resistance to true nature remains until the root of it is realized and released. It is realized when it is illuminated by the light of true awareness. This is achieved through silent meditation and self inquiry. To focus and hone one’s psychic abilities, highly focused concentrative meditation is necessary. This is merely a technique for practice. In the field it is necessary to be of no mind in order to channel the greatest amount of psychic power. This is directed by heart’s will alone as personal will only serves to limit one’s infinite potential.
