Conscious astral projection occurs when the consciousness of an individual finds itself fully aware but seemingly separate from the host’s physical body. This phenomenon is known by other names such as: astral travel. Out-of-body experience (o.b.e./o.o.b.e.). Astral projection may sound like something supernatural, paranormal, or extraordinary but it actually happens on a nightly basis to everyone. However, most of the time we retain little or no conscious memory of the astral travel after the fact.
Consciousness permeates the dimensional layers of the universe. Our attention is focused primarily on the here and now of the physical universe but we exist within so much more of it than we are aware of. When we remember our dreams sometimes we get a sneak peak at this other part of ourselves. Sometimes you can find yourself spontaneously aware of these other levels. Astral projection can feel as if you have left your physical body completely behind and you are free, unencumbered, and existing purely as energy or thought.
Having spontaneous out-of-body experiences can easily lead one down the path to discovering and learning the art of conscious astral projection. Once you have a feel for what the experience is like, it becomes easier to repeat it. It is almost like working a muscle. The more you practice astral travel, the easier it will become. You may even find yourself on the other side of the spectrum and have difficulty containing your consciousness at night.
Astral projection is a tuning of the frequency of your conscious awareness to other dimensions or levels of energy that make up the universe in which we exist. You could look at the physical universe as a skin and the ethereal astral realm as what lies beneath the surface. The physical universe is just the tip of the ice burg and the underlying energy dimensions make up the rest. When you attune yourself to these other layers, you will experience astral travel.
Practicing astral projection while maintaining a positive state of mind can actually awaken you to your psychic abilities or amplify the ones you are already aware of having. Astral travel can act as a catalyst for psychic power because it attunes you to the part of yourself that exists purely as energy patterns that are interconnected with everything else on the same level. Astral projection is at its best, in a sense, pure psychic awareness virtually unhindered by physical distraction or the conscious mind.
However, there are exceptions. You would be well advised to never attempt conscious astral projection while you are in a negative frame of mind. The astral realm is far more obviously reactive and responsive to the power of thoughts and emotion. It is extremely easy to manifest your inner demons and fears while you are astral projecting.
Fear is never a good thing to bring with you when you astral travel. That is why I place great emphasis on dealing with your own inner fears and conflicts before beginning any form of psychic development exercise. Although overcoming your fears and dealing with your inner conflicts directly within the astral planes can be a powerfully rewarding experience, it can also be a very traumatic one. If you do find yourself within a scary astral experience, remember that you are in control and that you can call for help.
Conscious astral projection is one of the best places to start when you are on the path of psychic development. This is because when it is achieved, astral travel allows you direct access to the energies that connect us to everything and everyone. It heightens your awareness and brings deeper clarity.
